The event will feature two distances—full marathon and half-marathon—both beginning and ending at the Yunnan Haigeng Hall in the Dianchi National Tourist Resort. The course circles the “Pearl of the Plateau,” averaging 1,900 m above sea level and showcasing Kunming’s signature scenery: the Western Hills, wetland flower fields and flocks of black-headed gulls. Runners have dubbed it “one of China’s most beautiful high-altitude courses.” True to its motto of “sport as the stage, culture as the performance,” the SCO Kunming Marathon will again welcome athletes from SCO member states and Belt and Road partner countries for a celebration of speed and cultural exchange.
