2022 SCO Kunming Marathon Kicked Off

On March 26, the 2022 SCO Kunming Marathon started in front of the Kunming Haigeng Hall. A total of more than 20,000 runners from 18 countries and regions signed up for this competition. In the end, about 15,000 runners took part in the event, which featured full marathon, half-marathon, 5km SCO run and 2.023km SCO family fun run according to the organizing committee.
It is understood that this event was originally scheduled to be held on December 31, 2022, but it was postponed to March 26, 2023 for some reason. The starting and ending points of the competition continued the tradition of the previous 6 sessions, and were still set in Haigeng Hall in Kunming. The track ran along Dianchi Lake, passing by representative landscapes and landmarks of Kunming City, including Xishan, Dianchi Dam, Hongta Training Base, Haigeng Training Base, Dianchi International Convention and Exhibition Center, etc..
At 9 o'clock in the morning, with the firing of the starting gun, the race officially started. The participants laughed and chatted their way through the race. People from different countries and regions with the same concentration and dedication gathered by the banks of Dianchi Lake. Regardless of the different routes, runners showed the same enthusiastic spirit as they ran freely. The agile figures of runners became the most beautiful scenery in this high-altitude marathon race.
After fierce competition, Christopher Kipruto Cheruiyot from Kenya won the men's marathon race and Sadiya Awel Shure from Ethiopia won the women's title at the 2022 SCO Kunming International Marathon. Cheruiyot crossed the line first in 2:16:58. Sadiya Awel Shure led the podium sweep in the women's marathon, finishing in 2:34:49.
Chinese runners swept titles in half-marathon as He Yingbing won the men's half-marathon in 1:08:35, while Luo Xia triumphed in the women's category in 1:17:42.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Kunming Marathon was established in 2016 and has since received awards from the Chinese Athletics Association, including the Bronze and Gold Medal events, IAAF Bronze Label events, World Athletics Silver Label events, and World Athletics Elite Label events. The SCO Kunming Marathon started from Kunming and ran to Astana, St. Petersburg, Issyk-Kul, Dushanbe and Tashkent and other SCO member states. The SCO Marathon series, represented by the Kunming Marathon, has become one of the largest sports events in the SCO. It perfectly combines the spirit of sports with the "Shanghai Spirit" and has become a successful example of promoting the people-to-people bond of the SCO countries through sports. It has been continuously included in the declaration issued by the SCO Heads of State Summit.
The track of the SCO Kunming Marathon is not just a 42.195-kilometer running course, it is also a link and bridge for communication and cooperation among SCO member countries. In recent years, various events have been organized, such as the SCO Yoga and Tai Chi event, SCO National Children's Art Exhibition and SCO National Film Festival.
