On February 23, 2025, the Qujing Luoping Marathon took place, with 15,000 runners dashing through the vast fields of canola flowers.
Themed "Gather in Qujing, Roam the Sea of Flowers," the event featured three categories: the full marathon (42.195 kilometers), the half marathon (21.0975 kilometers), and a fun run (5 kilometers). The race route started at the Luoping Sports Center, passing through scenic spots such as the Jinjifeng Peak Cluster, Laojian Mountain, and Shizi Mountain. This created a course that traversed flower fields, karst peaks, water landscapes, and misty vistas, showcasing Luoping's stunning natural scenery and rich folk culture. This year's event also introduced a special "Police Race within the Race" segment, where police officers used their badge numbers as runner IDs and participated in both the race and course management.
As a Chinese Athletics Association-certified A1-class event, this marathon emphasized "strict adherence to race rules and discipline" at its core. It has become the first benchmark event in Yunnan Province to systematically strengthen the supervision and management of race conduct. The event provided participants with a comprehensive and immersive racing experience, aiming to establish a new model for sports tourism under the theme "Travel with the Race—Experience a Lifestyle Called Yunnan." Additionally, it served as a prime example of "sports fostering exchanges and integration among ethnic groups" and a demonstration project for "sports promoting rural revitalization."
