Recently, at the Nanjian part of Wuliangshan National Nature Reserve in Nanjian Yi Autonomous County, the scene of flocks of silver pheasants foraging and playing was captured by the infrared camera.

Male silver pheasants have white upper bodies with black stripes, black lower bodies, and a black crest on the head. Female birds' bodies are relatively smaller and olive brown with white or yellow lines on the lower body. They are vigilant and like to gather in small flocks. Silver pheasants are the national second-class protected animal, inhabiting dense forests and gully rainforests and mainly feeding on insects, the stems, fruits, and seeds of plants. Due to their graceful and beautiful appearance, they are known as "fairies in the forest."

In recent years, the ecological environment of Nanjian County has been improving. The ecological environment quality evaluation and assessment of Nanjian County has been ranked top in Yunnan Province for many years. Its air quality has remained excellent for five consecutive years. The air in the Wuliangshan Nature Reserve contained more than 10,000 negative oxygen ions per cubic centimeter, and in 2019, it was successfully selected as one of the 5th "China's Oxygen bars." In addition, forest coverage in Nanjian County increased from 58.6% to 67.19% between 2012 and 2021. Nanjian County was awarded the title of "National Model County for Greening," was successfully incorporated into the National Key Ecological Function Area, and was named the fifth batch of National Ecological Civilization Construction Demonstration Areas.
