As a medium-sized wader, the black-tailed godwit is admired not only for its elegant appearance and unique flight patterns but also for its ecological role and sensitivity to environmental changes, making it an important subject of scientific research.

In China, the primary habitats of the black-tailed godwit include western Xinjiang, northeastern Inner Mongolia, and western Jilin Province. During migration, it can also be found in regions such as Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Gansu, Qinghai, Tibet, and Yunnan.

The black-tailed godwit inhabits marshes, wetlands, lakeshores, adjacent grasslands and low wetlands in plains, grasslands, and forested areas. During the breeding and wintering seasons, it mainly resides in coastal areas, tidal flats, river sandbars, and nearby farmland and swamps. Occasionally, it also frequents inland freshwater and saline lake wetlands to forage and feed. Its diet primarily consists of aquatic and terrestrial insects, insect larvae, crustaceans, and mollusks. The abundant resources of aquatic vegetation, fish, and shrimp in Qilin Water Township provide an excellent wintering habitat for the black-tailed godwit to feed and rest.

The black-tailed godwit was listed on August 1, 2000, in the "List of Terrestrial Wild Animals of Important Ecological, Scientific and Social Value." issued by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration. In the "China Red Data Book of Endangered Animals, Aves" it is categorized as a species of undetermined conservation status.
