Vietnam's rice sector is likely to face a host of challenges in exports in 2025 after a successful year in 2024, Vietnam News Agency cited experts on Thursday.
Rice exports will likely decline in both volume and price compared to 2024, as demand weakens and competition among exporting countries intensifies, said the experts.
They predicted that the export opportunities for 2025 would be limited, given the high baseline set in the previous year and additional market challenges.
With Vietnam's rice prices relatively high ahead of the harvest season, many importers are turning to other countries for their supply. As a result, rice prices this year are expected to be lower than in 2023 and 2024, potentially dropping below 2022 levels or experiencing only a modest increase.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam's rice exports set new records in both volume and value in 2024 at 9 million tons and 5.7 billion U.S. dollars.
