Out-of-print Block Printing is a relief printing technique developed from traditional multicolor woodblock printing. Originating in Pu'er, Yunnan, in the late 1980s, it has become one of China's four major printmaking styles. This method combines all color blocks onto a single plate and completes the artwork through a gradual carving and printing process, where each step reduces the plate. Since the original plate is destroyed during creation and cannot produce additional prints, it is known as "Out-of-print Block Printing."
In recent years, Nakeli Village in Pu'er, Yunnan, has collaborated with Pu'er University to establish the Nakeli Out-of-print Block Printing Teaching and Practice Base. The initiative provides skill training for students and local farmers, preserving the art of Out-of-print Block Printing while boosting incomes and promoting rural revitalization.
