Lotus Blossoms in Jiangwei Community

Elegant dancing, unique lotus-inspired cuisine, intangible cultural heritage exhibition... On July 6, the three-day Lotus Festival coupled with the second Agricultural Tourism Culture Festival successfully took place in Jiangwei Community in Dounan Sub-district. This Agricultural Tourism Cultural Festival is part of a series of activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the construction of Chenggong New City and the 40th anniversary of the flower industry development in Dounan. It consists of four chapters: "Admiring the Beauty of Lotus," "Depicting the Charm of Lotus," "Cherishing Sentiments for Lotus," and "Savoring the Fragrance of Lotus". Residents of the Jiangwei Community and tourists from other places gathered together to enjoy the lotus scenery and experience the characteristic agricultural tourism culture of Dian Lake.

During the opening ceremony, art workers from Jiangwei Community and co-construction units performed marvelous dances. The lotus cuisine street and surrounding creative cultural shops began operating. While appreciating the lotus, tourists can also learn more about the lotus delicacy and ice-creams to better appreciate the "Jiangwei food culture". The exhibition of intangible cultural heritage is to prompt citizens and tourists to deeper comprehend the charm of Jiangwei culture and its handicraft art.

To offer citizens and tourists better experiences, Jiangwei Community also organized interesting fishing activities during the event. Citizens and tourists can go fishing in the designated area for gaining unusual working experience. At the same time, the organizers also provide camping sites for citizens and tourists such as building canopy tents, placing camping tables and chairs, and serving flower tea, snacks, etc., This is a relaxing place for visitors to take a rest and prevent sunstroke.

The most exciting part of this festival is undoubtedly the Foam Party. Tourists jump into the sea of marshmallow-like foam, bringing water guns and bombs with them. This is especially cool and fun! In the lotus DIY area, under the guidance of professional teachers, tourists learned to make handicrafts such as lotus purses, lanterns, fans, and other artifacts. They immersed themselves to truly feel the beauty of the lotus. In addition, this event also presented prizes to the winners of the lotus photo competition named "Lotus Pond Impression"

There are about 100 mu of lotus in Jiangwei Community, covering four varieties including Dasajin, Xiaosajin, Honglou, and Taikong 14. The flowering period ranges from 60 days to 75 days, and they usually bloom from mid-June to mid-August. Deeply attracted by the charm of the lotus, many tourists took out their mobile phones and took pictures. A tourist exclaimed to the reporter while taking pictures: "The lotus here are so beautiful making me feel very satisfied and enjoyable.

In recent years, under the correct leadership of party committees and governments at all levels, Jiangwei Community has been fully practicing Xi Jinping's Thought on Ecological Civilization. Jiangwei Community prioritizes the protection of Dianchi Lake just as one would protect their own eyes. Moreover, Jiangwei Community strictly abided by the "ten-year fishing ban", has voluntarily withdrawn from vegetable and flower cultivation, and instead focused on cultivating clean field crops. It manages to restore traditional farming culture, and develop the agricultural tourism industry. The current Jiangwei Community is uncovering a new picture depicting the clear water, fragrant flowers, and ecological harmony. It successfully balanced agriculture and tourism at the same pace.
