The super hybrid rice demonstration base in Mengzi city of Yunnan province reaped a bumper harvest of 1,076.16 kilograms per mu (0.067 hectares) on average in early September, the fifth consecutive year for the production to surpass 1,000 kg, experts said.

From rice seedlings raising in March, transplantation in April and yield monitoring in early September, each process followed technical standards so that the rice can healthily grow, they said.

Yang Liumei, deputy director of Mengzi agricultural technology promotion center, said this year is the sixth year for the city to introduce super hybrid rice developed by Yuan Longping, the "father of hybrid rice". The same importance was attached to quality besides quantity, Yang added.
