“Supermoon” to light up the night on April 8

At 19:50 on April 8, this year’s biggest full moon will rise from the east, which is also called “supermoon” on the internet. Photographers could find a nice spot in advance to capture the rising moment of the supermoon.

Guo Jian, a member of Yunnan Amateur Astronomers Association, introduced that a supermoon is a full moon closely coinciding with perigee, the moon's closest point to Earth in its monthly orbit, which appears 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than the usual full moon. The so-called “supermoon” actually happens four to six times yearly. It is not an astronomical term but a cultural phenomenon. It is hard for people to distinguish the difference between a full moon and a supermoon by eyes unless they use the same equipment to shoot and compare.
