On March 22, nurse A Xiaoming and other medical assistance workers left Xianning for their hometowns. They cured 821 COVID-19 patients during more than 50 days and helped Xianning became the first city achieving zero confirmed case, zero suspected case, zero inpatient and zero asymptomatic infection in Hubei province.
29-year-old A Xiaoming returned back with professional pride, Xianning people’s gratitude and more than 50 paintings. In one of the paintings, Joker in A Chinese Odyssey stands in front of a green mountain and says,”I will go to find Fairy Zixia in my life when the epidemic is over.”
On March 14, medical workers successfully removed Ye Yan (pseudonym) from mechanical ventilation after a month long treatment at Xianning Central Hospital. Ye Yan walked around the bed with the help of medical crew and wrote "I see the sun.". Tears welled up in doctor Yuan Ying’s eyes when seeing the words, and then they hugged each other tightly.
Li Bo, the leader of the medical team, has devoted himself to intensive care for like 20 years. He has a better understanding of fear and courage. "I'm afraid, too." Li Bo introduced: "Only treat the COVID-19 rationally and judge scientifically can we protect ourselves well.”
When we recall the memories on February 14, we seemed to hear the second batch of Yunnan medical workers, which included 102 paramedics from 9 hospitals, shouting loud “Wuhan, stay strong” at the streets of Wuhan. They retrograded to Wuhan to fight against COVID-19 at Jianghan Fangcang Shelter Hospital.
Under the circumstance of epidemic spreading and lacking of materials, the temporary Fangcang Shelter Hospital was the life-boat for mild confirmed patients. As for paramedics, instinctive fear and anxiety add more difficulties to nursing work.
However, Yunnan medical workers endeavored to courage patients in different ways. For example, they wrote down blessings on notebook and folded paper into thousands of paper cranes, stars or hearts and hung them up like wind chimes.
“Although I cannot see your faces, I feel that you care about me just like my family.” “Thank you, white angel and I will recover as possible as I can.” “You are the most beautiful people from the most gorgeous province.” Several patients’ words conveyed the common heartfelt wish of Hubei people.
As of March 6, 208 patients were cured at Jianghan Fangcang Shelter Hospital thanks to all the Yunnan medical assistance workers. On March 9, the Jianghan Fangcang Shelter Hospital was officially closed.
Among Yunnan medical assistance team members in Jiayu County, there is a man named Duhai who is originally from Jiayu County. He did his best to save his fellows. In his words,”all for the sake of family.”
As the province with the highest number of ethnic minorities in China, 79 Yunnan medical team workers are from 15 ethnic minorities. Li Wenxiang, a paramedic of Yao nationality said,” I wish what we do could be a torch of life to lighten the warm house in Hubei.”
There are a total of 10 batches of 1158 medical workers from Yunnan came to Hubei to fight against COVID-19. The first batch arrived on January 27. Hubei people will never forget them and all kinds of support from Yunnan, such as fruits, vegetables, flowers and blood. Besides, Yunnan is the first place to settle stranded Hubei tourists in China.
