China has become an important player in global artificial intelligence development and the digital economy, said Cristian Davis, Consul General of Chile in Chengdu, in an interview with Guangming Online during APEC Digital Week 2026 in Chengdu, southwest China’s Sichuan Province.
Davis said China has developed rapidly in AI platforms and digital technologies, and highlighted the importance of establishing dialogue, enhancing exchanges and learning from each other’s experiences in AI development and governance.
China and Chile share common interests in promoting digital development, he noted. China’s openness in sharing experience and platforms with other countries provides valuable opportunities for cooperation.
Speaking of tangible cooperation, Davis cited Huawei's investment in a data center project in Chile, which is expected to support the country's digital transformation, as well as the role of Chinese companies such as ZTE in Chile's 5G development.
Looking ahead, Davis called for deeper cooperation among universities, research institutions and enterprises from both sides to jointly develop new technologies and promote innovation-driven development.
