Kunming in spring is like a masterpiece crafted by nature, with vibrant flowers blooming freely across the land, weaving enchanting scenes filled with fragrance and poetry in every corner.
In March, Kunming transforms into a vibrant sea of flowers. Here are some of the best spots for enjoying the spring blooms, inviting you to experience the unique charm of the “Spring City” and indulge in a dual feast for the eyes and the soul.
Yuantongshan Park
Situated in the heart of Kunming, Yuantongshan Park is one of China’s top ten destinations for cherry blossom viewing. Every March, the cherry blossoms burst into bloom, transforming the park into a pink floral paradise. The famous "Yuantong Cherry Blossom Tide" has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage of Yunnan Province, making it a signature attraction of Kunming.
This year, due to a delayed blooming period, the initial bloom will coincide with International Women’s Day, with peak viewing conditions expected by mid-March. At that time, Luofeng Mountain will once again transform into a breathtaking ocean of flowers.

Jindian Park
In early March, the rhododendrons on Jindian Mountain make a vibrant appearance, revealing their delicate beauty as they embrace the sunlight. Their brilliant colors herald the arrival of spring.
Among them, rhododendron delavayi stands out with its fiery red blossoms. As a distinctive member of the rhododendron family, it proudly showcases its captivating allure.
Hundreds of towering wild rhododendron delavayi bloom in vibrant deep red, creating a striking contrast with the softer pastel shades of other rhododendrons, offering a visually stunning experience.
From March to May, over 70 varieties of rhododendrons in the park's Rhododendron Specialty Garden will bloom in succession, reaching their peak around the Qingming Festival. Shades of pink, white, red, yellow, orange, and purple will compete for attention, creating a breathtaking floral spectacle. Strolling through this floral wonderland, visitors can truly appreciate the depth of spring's beauty.
Tanhua Temple Park
In March, over 200 pots of pot-blooming peonies were newly added to Tanhuasi Park in Kunming, allowing the local citizens to celebrate International Women's Day on March 8th. A century-old peony named "Moonlight Cup" in the park has also recently entered its blooming period, with pink flowers resembling fairies among blossoms. Each pot boasts about 40 flowers, making it a rare sight to behold.
Another highlight of the season is the more than 6,000 ground-planted peonies, bursting into peak bloom under the gentle spring sunshine, creating a magnificent floral display.
As the most iconic flower of Tanhua Temple Park, the peony is a dazzling gem embedded in the park's rich history. Each peony unfurls its graceful petals, showcasing the vitality and splendor of life in its finest form.
