Experience Hall of Yunnan Archaeology Opened

The stains on the mural need to be repaired. With VR goggles on, you can select the necessary tools and gently tap to successfully repair the damages. But why do we need archaeology? Is it just about treasure hunting? All of these questions were answered in a themed archaeology class. On June 10th, the Experience Hall of Yunnan Archaeology officially opened. This is currently the largest archaeological experience museum in the country. More than 100 students from Mingtong Primary School in Kunming were the first group of "little archaeology experience officers" to embark on a new archaeological journey.

The Experience Hall of Yunnan Archaeology is located at No. 4069 Jihong Road, Guandu District, Yunnan Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology. It has three floors and is divided into different functional areas such as archaeology, learning, excavation, and restoration. The museum focuses on immersive experiences related to archaeological work, ancient production and living, and cultural heritage, using a combination of modern technology and traditional methods to learn about archaeology and experience historical culture. At the experience site, the students showed strong interest and actively participated in interactive questioning. "Compared with regular classroom teaching, this is an immersive experience that extends beyond the textbook and broadens children's horizons," said a teacher from Mingtong Primary School.

As an important part of the opening ceremony, the "little archaeology experience officers" activity was planned by "Nannan Archaeological Academy" which was initiated by Yunnan Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology. In addition to visiting the Experience Hall, they also visited the excavation site of Jinning Hebosuo Relics Sites. Through interesting on-site interactive experiences, they helped young people learn about archaeology and cultivate exploratory thinking.

"In the eyes of many people, archaeology is a relatively obscure industry. In fact, archaeology work mainly aims to make up for deficiencies of traditional historical documents. The Experience Hall of Yunnan Archaeology builds a bridge between archaeology and the public, allowing archaeology science to move from being mysterious to being open, and promoting the popularization of archaeology to enter people's lives, providing quality cultural nourishment," said Liu Zhengxiong, director of the Yunnan Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology. The Experience Hall of Yunnan Archaeology is currently the largest archaeological experience museum in the country, and its construction aims to solve the problems of the utilization of cultural relics and the dissemination of archaeological culture. "After nearly two years of careful preparation, the opening of the Experience Hall of Yunnan Archaeology on the Cultural and Natural Heritage Day is of great significance to the public. In the next step, we will further enrich the archaeological experience projects according to the needs of the public, and allow more people to visit the museum to experience and perceive the archaeology culture."
