India's retail inflation rose to 5.59 percent in December last year, showed data released by the ministry of statistics and program implementation Wednesday.
The figure, based on the Consumer Price Index, was 4.91 percent in the previous month. The food inflation also surged to 4.05 percent in December 2021 from 1.87 percent in November 2021.
The rise in inflation is reportedly attributed to a sharp increase in the price of food items.
