With the theme of “The code of life in heavy color painting; Thousands of leaves and sound” , Wang Yuhui’s painting exhibition took place at Elephament art gallery in Kunming. Surrounded by lovely indoor plants, 48 artworks were mainly about tropical plants and Asian elephants, bringing visitors into the natural scenery of rainforest and ethnic villages in Xishuangbanna.
To understand art through nature
As a native of Yunnan, Wang Yuhui was impressed by the biodiversity of plants, so he drew entangled roots, dense branches, and colorful flowers and leaves. His paintings were filled with strong humanistic concerns, and with a combination of lines and colors, he brought trees and rainforests in the far distance closer to viewers.
To form his unique style of art
The plants in the paintings of Wang Yuhui are derived from the natural world. He went to the countryside in Xishuangbanna several times to explore the natural landscape, ethnic customs, and culture. “Xishuangbanna is rich in plant resources. Flowers and trees are growing into a fairy tale world under the sun and rain here.” He infused his deep love for this land and sincere personal feelings into the paintings by combining the “lines” in the east and “colors” in the west, to create vibrant and colorful contemporary images in a heavy color.
To resonate between humans and nature
As the first part of the COP15 UN Biodiversity Conference was held in Kunming, Yunnan’s biodiversity has gained global attention and become a source of inspiration for many Yunnan artists. The paintings of Wang Yuhui depicted a thriving and lively nature, and they also implied a poetic questioning of life.
“The convening of COP15 in Kunming was a demonstration of Yunnan’s efforts of biodiversity protection and also an opportunity to raise environmental awareness in the world. The history of paintings has proved that the artworks should serve society. I also wish I could express the harmonious relationship between humans and nature with rich biodiversity,”said Wang Yuhui.
