On March 10, Kunming Area of China (Yunnan) Pilot Free Trade Zone signed a framework agreement with Yunnan Cancer Hospital (also named The Third Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University). Both parties will invest 2.2 billion yuan to construct a branch hospital of Yunnan Cancer Hospital. In the future, they will carry out all-round co-operation in the fields of cancer prevention and control, rehabilitation, scientific research, talent training and so on.

The first phase of the project, with a total investment of 1.085 billion yuan, is located at the intersection of Chenyi Road and Qiujing Road, which covers about 70 mu of land area. According to the plan, an emergency medical technology building, an inpatient building, an inpatient rehabilitation building, a medical examination center and a basement will be built there. The second phase will gradually construct a regional medical center and a proton therapy center of National Cancer Institute. It is expected to receive patients in the first quarter of 2022.

Huang Yunchao, President of Yunnan Cancer Hospital, said that it will greatly promote the development of cancer prevention and control, discipline construction and talent training to a higher level in Yunnan province, benefit the cancer patients in Yunnan Province and surrounding countries and regions as well.
