Robots are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and those made in China demonstrate real progress in advanced mobility and the ability to perform multiple tasks effectively, according to a U.S. tech industry leader.
Chinese humanoid robots and other robotic technologies have made "real progress" and key "breakthroughs" in mobility and operational efficiency on the global stage, marking rapid technological advancement, said a U.S. tech industry leader.
In a recent interview with Xinhua, Gary Shapiro, executive chair and CEO of the U.S. Consumer Technology Association, organizer of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), said that robotics is evolving rapidly across multiple domains, with humanoid robots emerging as a key area of innovation.
Robotics has become one of the fastest-growing categories at CES, the world's largest tech trade show, underscoring both accelerating innovation and expanding real-world applications.
"Robots are becoming increasingly sophisticated, designed for everything from Mars exploration to making your coffee," Shapiro noted, highlighting the breadth of advancements across the sector.
At CES 2026, a wide range of robots were showcased, including machines that fold laundry and assist in precision surgeries, perform repetitive industrial tasks and even entertain audiences through interactive experiences such as dueling piano humanoids, Shapiro noted.
He highlighted humanoid robots for home and industrial use developed by Chinese companies, including AgiBot Innovation, Beijing Galbot Co., Ltd., Shenzhen EngineAI Robotics Technology and Unitree Robotics, among others.
"They (Chinese humanoids) demonstrated real progress in advanced mobility and the ability to perform multiple tasks effectively," Shapiro noted.
Beyond humanoid robots, Chinese enterprises are also advancing other forms of robotics.
Shapiro stressed innovations such as Hypershell's wearable exoskeletons and Dreame Technology's high-performance robot vacuum cleaners, illustrating the robotics ecosystem's diversified growth.
He added that CES offers a unique window into the future of technology, where emerging innovations can be experienced firsthand.
"Every year, the leaps we witness in robotics are astounding. I predict the next advancements in humanoids will be in breakthroughs in learning, dexterity, and increasing production," he told Xinhua.
Industry observers noted that China's strength in manufacturing, supply chains and rapid iteration cycles has helped accelerate the transition of robotics technologies from prototypes to scalable products.
Experts noted that China is increasingly positioning itself as a major player in shaping the future of the global robotics industry.
