Under azure skies and brilliant sunshine, seagulls glide above Dianchi Lake, where every pause reveals a romantic vista and every snapshot captures a picturesque moment. Kunming’s winters, blessed with mild temperatures and the company of seagulls, offer an ideal setting for themed trips focused on gull-watching, photography, leisure, and relaxation—promising an unforgettable travel experience.
The crimson-tinged metasequoia trees transform Dianchi’s "Sky Mirror" into a golden-red oil painting. Strolling through this scene, with seagulls soaring overhead and joyful visitors adding life to the landscape, the view becomes even more vibrant.
At Haiyan Village’s cafés, new seasonal offerings celebrate the seagull-watching season. Adorned with seagull-themed decorations, these cafés introduce special menus featuring gullwatching-inspired combos. Visitors can savor coffee and barbecue on the first floor, then retreat to the second floor to bask in the sun and watch the seagulls—a perfect way to spend a leisurely day.
The South Ring Road of Dianchi, hailed as the "most scenic lakeside route," is a cyclist’s ideal path. "Riding along with the breeze, stopping to relax with a cup of tea while admiring the seagulls and views—it’s both invigorating and visually rewarding. Our cycling community keeps growing," shares Tang, a local fitness instructor who notes that the seagull-watching season has moved workouts from gyms to the lakeside.
South Dianchi’s "Whale Island" is another prime spot for seagull-watching, famed for its photogenic scenery. As visitor numbers rise, nearby fishing villages have introduced diverse tourism offerings, such as tent barbecues and waterfront farmhouse cuisine, blending exploration with culinary delight.
At Haigeng Dam, Kunming’s most iconic seagull destination, the newly opened "Seagull Post Office" allows tourists to purchase creative souvenirs like seagull-themed postcards, stamped with a commemorative "Kunming Black-Headed Gull" postmark.
To enhance the seagull-watching experience, Kunming has carefully curated a "Seagull-Watching Map," highlighting over 50 popular and emerging vantage points across the city. As each location gains popularity, tailored tourism offerings continue to be introduced, ensuring Kunming’s seagull-watching journeys even more captivating.
