On November 26, 2024, the "Kunming Dry Port" multimodal freight train on the China-Laos-Thailand Railway, carrying industrial products such as fertilizers manufactured in Anning, Kunming, arrived at Ranong Port in Thailand.

Six days earlier, this service transported durians from Ranong and Chumphon, Thailand, to Kunming International Dry Port's Anning North Port.

Spanning mountains and seas, the "Kunming Dry Port" multimodal freight train completed its inaugural round-trip on the China-Laos-Thailand Railway.

On November 19, the "Kunming Dry Port" multimodal freight train from Anning, Kunming, China, to Ranong, Thailand, departed.

This milestone heralds a new chapter of multimodal transport services along the China-Laos Railway. It represents a key achievement under the framework of the China-Laos Railway Cities Alliance, a significant advancement for Yunnan Province in promoting the southern corridor of the Belt and Road Initiative, catalyzing Kunming's evolution into a globally connected dry port.

As a key hub of the Kunming International Dry Port, Anning North Port comprises the Taohuacun Port Area, its functional extension area (Dushupu), the Caopu Port Area, and its functional extension area (Qinglongsi). At its core are the Taohuacun Railway Freight Station and the Dalongshan Railway Spur Line serving the Anning Industrial Park. Currently, Anning North Port hosts several major projects, including the Customs Supervision Area Construction Project, the Rail-Road Intermodal Logistics Park for bulk industrial materials in the Anning Industrial Park, the China-Laos Logistics Park at Anning's Taohuacun Freight Station, the Kunming South Asia International Dry Port Rail-Road Intermodal Hub, and the Taohuacun Railway Automotive Logistics Base.

Complementing Anning North Port, Mohan South Port, one of the "dual cores" of the Kunming International Dry Port, is accelerating its development. Recently, the first phase of the Mohan Highway Port Comprehensive Upgrade Project was selected as a recipient of ultra-long-term special government bonds and is now under rapid construction. Meanwhile, promising progress has also been made at Wangjiaying, one of the "two wings" of the Kunming International Dry Port. The Kunming Economic Development Zone (China Pilot Free Trade Zone Kunming Area) has finalized a comprehensive upgrade and implementation plan for Wangjiaying. Through a three-year action plan, efforts will focus on advancing the Kunming Wangjiaying International Dry Port and integrating it into the comprehensive development of areas along the China-Laos Railway.

Liu Jinxin, Director of the Kunming South Asia and Southeast Asia International Logistics Research Institute, remarked, "Kunming is the starting point of the Trans-Asian Railway Network, the Asian Highway Network, and the Asia-Pacific Dry Port Network. In the future, Kunming, as an international dry port hub, will strengthen its ties with inland and seaport cities across the Asia-Pacific region."
