Indonesian president inaugurates new palace in Nusantara

Indonesian President Joko Widodo, known popularly as Jokowi, on Friday inaugurated the State Palace at the country's future capital of Nusantara on the island of Kalimantan, less than two weeks before leaving office.

The State Palace is one of two presidential palaces in Nusantara, with the other being Garuda Palace which was still under development.

Jokowi, accompanied by his wife Iriana and some ministers, said the Garuda Palace will be inaugurated by his successor Prabowo Subianto.

The Garuda Palace is designed to be the president's official office, while the State Palace will be used for presidential events.

Jokowi, who has worked from Nusantara several times since August, will leave office on Oct. 20.

On the same day, President-elect Prabowo and Vice-president-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Jokowi's eldest son, will be sworn in at the Senayan legislative complex in South Jakarta.
