Thailand's consumer confidence rises in December 2023

Thailand's consumer confidence index (CCI) continued to increase in December 2023, reaching a 46-month high due to government measures to reduce living costs and a tourism revival, a survey showed on Thursday.

According to the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) survey of 2,241 respondents across the Southeast Asian country, the CCI rose to 62.0 last month from 60.9 in November as all components of the index improved for the fifth month.

The December figure was mainly attributed to the government's stimulus measures, particularly energy and gasoline price cuts, along with tourism recovery following a visa exemption scheme, the UTCC said in a statement.

However, concerns over drought resulting from the El Nino weather pattern, geopolitical conflicts, and high interest rates remained a negative impact on sentiment, the statement said.
