At 14:45 local time on November 12th, China Eastern Airlines flight MU753 from Kunming smoothly landed at Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport. Many passengers expressed their anticipation for the airport and the journey to Angkor Wat. "In early winter, I want to take my family to Cambodia to escape the cold and visit the Angkor Wat. I didn't expect this airport to be built and operated by Yunnan company. The terminal building is full of technology elements, making it an ideal first stop for exploring Siem Reap," said Ms. Yang, a passenger on the flight. The official launch of regular flights from Kunming to Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport is another important measure taken by Yunnan Civil Aviation to implement the "Belt and Road Initiative," creating an "Air Silk Road" for economic and cultural exchanges between the two regions.
It is reported that China Eastern Airlines operates the regular flight from Kunming to Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport, with one flight every Wednesday and Sunday. The frequency will gradually increase to one flight per day based on the recovery of the outbound tourism market. The planned departure time from Kunming is 13:30, arriving in Siem Reap at 15:00. The return flight departs at 16:00 from Siem Reap and arrives in Kunming at 18:55, with a one-hour time difference between China and Cambodia. After the launch of this flight, the one-way flight time between Kunming and Siem Reap is significantly reduced from the original 8-hour transit in Bangkok to around 2.5 hours, further improving travel efficiency for passengers.
Angkor Wat, Soul of Cambodia
The Kunming-Siem Reap flight is the first domestic direct flight since Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport began operations. It is also one of the driving forces behind the construction of the "Air Silk Road" between China and Cambodia. To ensure the operation, Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport has been continuously strengthening safety, services, operations, and commercial oversight, actively creating a safer, more efficient, and comfortable flying environment, and further enhancing the confidence of all parties involved in the airport's flight guarantee capabilities. At the same time, they have held multiple discussions with China Eastern Airlines Yunnan Company regarding the launch of regular flights and successfully secured the winter flight schedule, laying a solid foundation for the commencement of operations.
The opening of the regular flight from Kunming to Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport further optimizes the layout of Yunnan Civil Aviation's "Three Levels and Four Networks," creating a new model of synergy and complementarity among 19 airports in the province and one overseas airport. Next, Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport will continue to leverage its geographical advantages and international tourism airport functions, accelerating the introduction of more domestic flight routes, strengthening communication and interaction with all sides in Cambodia, and making contributions to the joint construction of the "Belt and Road Initiative" between China and Cambodia.
