Bangladesh's merchandise export income in the first two months of the current 2023-24 fiscal year from July 2023 to June 2024 grew 9.12 percent to nearly 10 billion U.S. dollars, an official said Monday.
The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) official, who preferred to be unnamed, told Xinhua that "the country earned a total of 9,375.11 million dollars from export during July-August of fiscal 2023-24 compared to 8,591.82 million dollars a year earlier."
Quoting the EPB data, he said export income for August was about 4,782 million dollars, 3.80 percent higher than that in the same month last year.
The official said overall export surged as demand for made-in-Bangladesh garment items picked up.
He said ready-made garment exports from Bangladesh grew 12.46 percent to 7,998.59 million dollars in the first two months of the current 2023-24 fiscal year.
Bangladesh has set its export target for 2023-24 fiscal year at 62 billion dollars including over 52 billion dollars from ready-made garment products.
