In August, the picturesque Laoyuhe Wetland Park, located on the east bank of Dianchi Lake, has around 32,000 Taxodium hybrid Zhongshanshan in lush green. This wetland park is like a "water forest" with birds in the woods, waters flowing underneath the trees, and fish swimming in the water. Visitors traveling on the "crystal boat" enjoyed the serenity of the park. Under the supervision of their parents, children could catch fish and shrimp with dip nets and small buckets on the water bank. The vast scenery of Dianchi Lake attracts tourists to enjoy water activities on the shallow beach and have an unforgettable ecological journey.
According to the Kunming Dianchi Lake Management Bureau, the vegetation coverage rate of wetlands around Dianchi Lake has increased from 13.1% in 2007 to 81% at present. The number of plant species rose from 232 to 303, while that of bird species rose from 89 to 175, and there are currently 26 fish species. Since 2008, in order to step up the protection of the lakeside area of Dianchi Lake, Kunming City has initiated the Dianchi lakeside ecological construction. Today, a total of 62,900 mu (around 4,193 hectares) of wetland-based ecological belt around Dianchi Lake has been built. A closed ecological belt with an average width of 200 meters has come into being on the shore of Dianchi Lake, forming a complete and functional lakeside ecological barrier based on natural ecology. The lakeside ecological functionality and biodiversity around Dianchi Lake have been restored.
