Lotus in Parks

With the summer solstice and Dragon Boat Festival approaching, the lotus ponds covering hundreds of mu in Daguan Park, Kunming, are in full bloom, filling the air with the fragrance of lotus. Many tourists visit the park to enjoy the coolness and admire the lotus flowers. This year, nearly 150 mu of lotus, consisting of over 300 varieties, were planted in the water, along with more than 4,000 potted aquatic plants such as water lilies. Due to the high temperature and abundant sunlight, the blooming period of the lotus has arrived almost a month earlier than usual, and the best time to appreciate the flowers is during the summer solstice and Dragon Boat Festival.

All of the lilies featured in this festival are cultivated in the Netherlands. There are a total of 600,000 bulbs and over 1.2 million blooming flowers, representing nearly 100 varieties and covering almost all lily colors found worldwide, including both fragrant and non-fragrant varieties. The festival showcases a comprehensive collection of Asian lilies and fragrant lilies, and for the first time, rare and luxurious double-petal lilies, also known as rose lilies, are being displayed for visitors to enjoy.

On June 21, let's celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival in the Duoya Flower Garden!

Roaming in the sea of flowers, there is a photo spot every ten steps! In the bonsai garden, various types of bonsai are competing to show off their beauty, while hundreds of greenhouse live streams are selling potted flowers to various parts of the country.

Every year on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, Yiliang welcomes the grandest carnival - the Yiliang Flower Street Festival. The festival originated in the Ming Dynasty and has a history of more than 400 years.

According to the "Yiliang County Chronicle," during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty (1522-1567), Yiliang County excavated a canal, built a dam, and constructed an irrigation channel from the Yangzonghai Lake, which was called Wengong River (now known as the Xihe River). A stone bridge was built where the river passed through the southern part of Yiliang City, originally called Qingyuan Bridge. Local people gathered to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival near the bridge every year, and the bridge was then called "Huaqiao" or "Flower Bridge," a name that has been used to this day.

In addition, from June 12 to July 12, Yunnan's middle and high school students can visit the Yunnan Provincial Museum's first special exhibition of 2023, entitled "Splendor of the Tang Dynasty: The Astonishing Treasure of the Great Tang Palace," at half-price by presenting their exam admission tickets.

The exhibition features over 100 exquisite cultural relics from five cultural and historical institutions in Shaanxi Province, including the Shaanxi History Museum, Famen Temple Museum, Baoji Bronze Museum, Fengxiang District Museum, and Linyou County Museum, as well as the Zhenjiang Museum in Jiangsu Province. Dozens of national first-grade cultural relics are displayed for the first time in Kunming at the Yunnan Provincial Museum.
