Fire at landmark post office injures 4 in Philippines

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said on Monday that the fire razing a century-old landmark building in the Philippine capital of Manila injured four people and was "under control."

The bureau said the fire erupted at the Philippine central post office around 11 p.m. local time on Sunday, and at least four people were reportedly injured.

Initial investigation showed the fire started from the basement of the four-story building. The blaze was placed on the highest fire alarm level shortly before 6 a.m. local time on Monday.

The fire protection bureau said the shell of the building remains intact, while firefighters continue to put out the fire completely.

Acting Postmaster General Luis Carlos said commemorative stamps were among the items burned.
