On Oct 15, the Naturalist's Library, a branch library of the Natural History Museum of Yunnan Provincial Library, was officially reopened to the public after relocating to Fanghuali residential block on Renmin East Road in Guandu District of Kunming City.
The Naturalist's Library reopens after relocation.
The Naturalist's Library is a non-profit library that attracted a large number of fans who loved plants when it first opened in 2017 at No. 578 Longquan Road in Panlong District. Right now, after its relocation, the Naturalist's Library will meet readers with a new look. With "natural history" as the theme, books fall into two categories: "nature and science" and "nature and humanities". At present, this Library has a collection of over 10,000 books, as well as animal and plant specimens and fossils.
Fangwei is the Naturalist's Library's librarian and a researcher at Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, working on plant taxonomy. He introduced that the public can borrow books from the Library free of charge. The Naturalist's Library will launch activities such as "Weekend Nature and Art Experience Day" to take people to hike in the mountain and collect and make plant specimens. In the future, the Library will increase the number of book collections. Online Naturalist's Library with a book database is expected to open up within half a year to facilitate readers to access the Library.
The Naturalist's Library is situated at the end of the alley in Fanghuali residential block with many buildings of nostalgic culture and art. There are plenty of plants and flowers in the surrounding of Library, divided into the book area and specimen area, where you can watch a movie and drink a cup of tea. "We wish to create a cultural space with warmth," said Fangwei.
