"Ghost plants" first appear in Yunnan's Dawei Mountain.

Monotropa uniflora grows in moist forests with its whole body white and crystal clear as jade. The plants grow in clusters with erect stems more than ten centimeters high. In traditional Chinese Kung fu novels, they often show up as "ghost flowers".

Monotropa uniflora does not contain chlorophyll, so it can only symbiose with the fungus living in rotting leaves rather than absorbing sunlight for photosynthesis. Meanwhile, Monotropa uniflora is particularly rare and has high requirements for environmental quality. The favorable ecology of Dawei Mountain National Nature Reserve in Yunnan province provides a suitable environment for the growth of the ghost plant.
