Indonesian President Joko Widodo attended on Monday the ceremony to mark a ferronickel smelter plant, invested by a Chinese company, starting production in Morowali Utara county, Central Sulawesi province.
The smelter, PT Gunbuster Nickel Industry, located in PT Virtue Dragon Nickel Industry park, with an annual output of 1.8 million tons of ferronickel.
The project is invested by China's Jiangsu Delong Nickel Industry Co. Ltd.
Widodo said that the construction of such a smelter is welcomed and appreciated, adding that projects as such not only contributes to the tax revenue, but also creates employment opportunities, which will promote the local economic development.
