A soldier was killed as a group of terrorists attacked a military check post in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, the Pakistani military said on Saturday.
The terrorists opened fire at the military post in Shewa area of North Waziristan tribal district of KP, the military's media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
"Army troops initiated a prompt response and effectively engaged the terrorists' location," the statement said, adding that during an intense exchange of fire, a 32-year-old soldier lost his life.
The security forces were carrying out a clearance operation to eliminate any possible terrorists' presence in the area, the ISPR said.
