Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Thursday that the country will facilitate the technology industry with a policy to generate job opportunities and increase revenue by exporting the products.
"If incentivized and facilitated, the technology industry could help overcome the current account deficit of the country by boosting exports as well as addressing the issue of unemployment," said the prime minister, while addressing the inauguration ceremony of a special technology zone "Technopolis" in Lahore, eastern Punjab province.
Khan told the audience that Pakistan lagged behind in the sector despite having ideal conditions, including the young population, adding that the new initiatives would help the country increase annual tech exports.
The prime minister said the country should learn from China in the field of technology, especially the way China promoted technical education, encouraged inventions and attracted investments and talents from across the world.
