Overwintering black-necked cranes arrived at Yunnan's Dashanbao

The first batch of black-necked cranes, one of the national key protected wild animals, have arrived at Dashanbao, Yunnan Province, since Nov. 5, according to the Bureau of Management and Conservation of the Dashanbao Black-necked Crane National Nature Reserve.

Dashanbao, located in Zhaoyang District, Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province, has the largest distribution of per unit area of black-necked cranes in China. Since the establishment of the reserve, it has gradually become the most important wintering habitat and migration station of black-necked cranes on Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau.

“In recent years, the annual number of black-necked cranes wintering in Dashanbao has stabilized at about 1,400,” said the staff of the reserve. In order to strengthen biodiversity protection and promote the harmonious coexistence between man and nature, the bureau on Nov. 1 launched patrol and monitoring work to provide a good habitat for black-necked cranes and other migratory birds.
