Historical epic "The Battle at Lake Changjin" continued to dominate the Chinese mainland box office chart on Friday, the first working day after the weeklong National Day holiday, figures released by the China Movie Data Information Network showed Saturday.

The film, co-directed by Chen Kaige, Hark Tsui, and Dante Lam and headlined by Wu Jing and Jackson Yee, finished its ninth day of screening with more than 163.36 million yuan (about 25.3 million U.S. dollars), accounting for 83 percent of Friday's total.

Set in the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-1953), the film tells the story of the Chinese People's Volunteers soldiers fighting bravely under freezing temperatures in a key campaign at Lake Changjin, or Chosin Reservoir.

It was followed by patriotic anthology "My Country, My Parents," which raked in around 28.18 million yuan on Friday.

Youth film "Water Boys" ranked third, generating daily earnings of more than 1.98 million yuan.
