China will hold the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) in Kunming City, from Oct. 11 to 24. To successfully host this event, Kunming is making comprehensive efforts to upgrade the city’s appearance, focusing on biodiversity exhibition and 5G smart city construction, and fully displaying the image of Kunming as a “Beautiful Spring City”. 

Improve city’s appearance and environment

Kunming has not only completed the upgrading of 62 main roads, but also formulated a plan of the improvement of city’s appearance and environment. At present, Kunming is pushing forward the work of beautifying the city mainly, and also checking, repairing, and cleaning up the place-name signs in key areas such as important roads, venues and hotels. 

For the volunteer work, Kunming has formulated a management plan, further refining the classification and division of volunteer work, and adjusting the recruitment scale of volunteer. At the same time, according to the requirements of the COP15, Kunming has recruited English-speaking volunteers from universities. Ethnic volunteers has also been considered.

Construct 5G network

Kunming has implemented a series of emission reduction measures such as green transportation, green accommodation, green conference and green publicity, and put the concept of sustainable development into the whole process of the preparation.

Meanwhile, Kunming has accelerated the construction of network, carried out 5G base station construction and subway 5G network construction throughout the city, and focused on the local area network construction inside and outside the venues to guarantee the COP15 will be held in a smart manner. 

Prepare exhibition of biodiversity

In terms of the preparation of biodiversity-themed exhibition, the Biodiversity Experience Park Project leaded by the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences is going steadily, and the Baofeng Bandao Wetland is built orderly to show the protection of Dianchi Lake.

For the logistics support work such as accommodation and transportation, Kunming initially confirmed 44 hotels as the recommended reception units for the COP15, and has formulated a plan for transport capacity guaranty.

In addition, Kunming actively carried out the medical emergency work, and clarified the requirements of epidemic prevention and control work.
