As a two-year-old gibbon, its fur color has become black, which indicates that it is a handsome “boy”. The photos show that it is trying to leave its mother’s arms to forage and play nearby in this season.

In order to shoot this little gibbon, photographers waited for a week two year ago. Facing the camera, the mother gibbon 20 meters away was holding the baby tightly, while the little baby was inquisitive about the world and stretched out his hand to play with the branches around from time to time. Two days later, the mother finally let down her guard and wondered the woods with the baby unhurriedly.

Skywalker hoolock (hoolock tianxing) named by Chinese scientists is one of the endangered wildlife in the world and under China's first-class state protection. It is only distributed in China and northern Myanmar, and the distribute area in China is very narrow with a population of less than 150 and 84 of them in Yingjiang county. Beside, fragmented data suggests that the situation of the gibbon in northern Myanmar is not good.

After this little gibbon was born, the family has grown to six members, making it the largest known family of hoolock tianxing in China. According to the data from the photographers and local forest rangers, this family’s living area has been extended to a radius of several kilometers, with at least three small families and 13 gibbon in total. “Recently, another female gibbon has gone to live with the group below, there might be good news in the near future,” Yu Zhongfu, the forest ranger, said with a smile.
