Kunming’s old friends, the black-headed gulls, have arrived as expected in Dianchi lake. Wang Zhibin, deputy secretary general of Kunming Ornithological Association, introduced that thousands of gulls have been observed above Dianchi lake. Although there are some passing gulls, it is certain that the advance batch of gulls has already arrived, and the large group of them will arrive in a few days.

“We saw dozens of black-headed gulls coming in the morning, but they didn’t dock,” a parking toll collector at Haigeng dam said. “After a while, another group appeared, and soon flew away.”

Wang Zhibin said, he saw the gulls at Caohai dam and Haigeng park. The arriving time is similar to previous years, on October 6th. In the past six years, the gulls have come to Kunming usually in early October, which is related to their increasing familiarity with their wintering place in Kunming. In addition, abundant food in Dianchi and civilized behavior of citizens make them have a sense of dependence on this place and are willing to come every year.
