The construction of Bangladesh's largest Padma Bridge is still underway despite the COVID-19 outbreak in the country, with the 30th span installed on Saturday.
With the installation of the 150-meter long span, 4.5 km of the bridge is now visible, Dewan Md Abdul Kader, manager of Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project from the Bangladeshi government's Bangladesh Bridge Authority told Xinhua on Saturday.
He said the engineers of China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co, Ltd (MBEC) had successfully installed the span on Saturday at around 9:45 a.m.
The 29th span of the Padma bridge was installed earlier this month.
Despite the COVID-19 outbreak, Kader said MBEC continued its relentless efforts to ensure the completion of the project.
According to the project engineer, the 31st span among the 41 spans of the bridge will be installed by June 20.
Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the main works of Padma Bridge project, the biggest of its kind in the country, in December 2015.
Apart from connecting nearly 30 million people in Bangladesh's southwest region to the rest of the country, the 6.15-km Padma bridge will enhance regional trade and collaboration along the Asian highway No. 1 and the Trans-Asian railway network.
