Bangladesh will conduct countrywide population and housing census early next year.

The State agency Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) will carry out the "Population Census and Household Listing 2021" between Jan. 2 and Jan. 8 next year.

BBS made the announcement at the inaugural workshop on the Population Census and Household Listing 2021 at its Auditorium in the capital on Thursday.

Zahidul Haque Sarder, the project director of the population census, said that as the first step towards the census, BBS will begin the household mapping from February.

Both Bangladeshi expatriates abroad and foreigners living in Bangladesh will also come under the census, he said.
