Chinese paddlers Xu Xin and Sun Yingsha reached the final of men's and women's singles respectively at the T2 Diamond Singapore here on Sunday.
Top-seeded Xu took control of the match against Japanese teenager Tomokazu Harimoto and moved 11-7, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6 ahead after four games. As the "FAST5" came into play, Xu went on to pocket the win in the fifth game 5-4 and secure a final spot.
But teammate Lin Gaoyuan failed to join him in the final later on Sunday. Lin was swept by Lin Yun-Ju of Chinese Taipei 11-6, 11-10, 11-8, 11-8.
In women's semifinals, it took Sun full games to overcome fellow Chinese Wang Manyu 4-11, 7-11, 11-4, 10-11, 5-2, 5-1, 5-1.
Sun will next face Japan's Mima Ito, who saw off Jeon Ji-hee of South Korea after five games.
Featuring 32 of the world's best men and women players, the T2 Diamond 2019 tournament adopts a best-of-seven format with all games played to 11 points. If no player has won four games after 24 minutes of play, the match will enter a "FAST5" game played to five points.
