China's Xu, Sun make into T2 Diamond Singapore title contention

Chinese paddlers Xu Xin and Sun Yingsha reached the final of men's and women's singles respectively at the T2 Diamond Singapore here on Sunday.

Top-seeded Xu took control of the match against Japanese teenager Tomokazu Harimoto and moved 11-7, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6 ahead after four games. As the "FAST5" came into play, Xu went on to pocket the win in the fifth game 5-4 and secure a final spot.

But teammate Lin Gaoyuan failed to join him in the final later on Sunday. Lin was swept by Lin Yun-Ju of Chinese Taipei 11-6, 11-10, 11-8, 11-8.

In women's semifinals, it took Sun full games to overcome fellow Chinese Wang Manyu 4-11, 7-11, 11-4, 10-11, 5-2, 5-1, 5-1.

Sun will next face Japan's Mima Ito, who saw off Jeon Ji-hee of South Korea after five games.
