[InKunming--Sister Cities] In the morning of March 18, the launching ceremony of 2019 Yunnan Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Series and Lancang-Mekong Week was held at Yunnan University.
Yunnan provincial government hosted the ceremony. Over 200 honored guests including leaders from Yunnan governmental departments, universities, consular officers from Consulates General in Kunming, and overseas students from Lancang-Mekong countries.
Li Jiming, Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Yunnan Province, as well as Director of Yunnan Liaison Office of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation China Secretariat, gave a speech on the ceremony.
He said Yunnan, as a frontier of Lancang-Mekong region, relying on its unique geographical advantages and long-standing traditional friendship with Lancang-Mekong countries, has actively participated in Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, and achieved new results.
This year, more than 30 events which refer to infrastructure, hospitals, sports, culture and arts will be carried out one by one according to arrangements of 2019 Yunnan Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Series.
Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) is a new cooperation mechanism jointly announced by China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam at the first leaders' meeting held in Sanya, Hainan Province on March 23, 2016.
