[InKunming--Yunnan] With the Mid-Autumn Festival approaching last weekend, people were busy on eating mooncakes, crabs and other seasonal food to celebrate the festival. At Yunnan Wildlife park, the staff also prepared “mooncakes” with various ingredients for the animals.
The mandrill couple spent their first Mid-Autumn Festival here. The staff specially mixed fruits together and made them into a mooncake shape, including apple, pear, banana, red date, peanut, haw and so on.
In order to entertain the white rhino couple, staff collected the grass as main course, then covered with a layer of fluffy alfalfa grass, and put the words “Happy Mid-Autumn Festival” on the top with sliced carrots.
The meerkats mainly feed on insects, and workers at the zoo steamed some mooncakes specially designed for animals by hollowing out the middle and filling with insects and meat.
Panda’s exclusive mooncake is the most difficult to make. Using corn flour, wheat flour, soybean flour and other ingredients, staff stirred them with salt, calcium powder, vitamin and peanut oil, and steamed for a while to finally produce panda’s corn mooncakes which could provide the two growing pandas with adequate nutrition.
