Mosuo Zhuanshan Festival kicks off at Lugu lake in Lijiang, Yunnan

[InKunming--Yunnan] Being designated as local statutory holiday, the 2018 Ninglang Lugu lake Mosuo Zhuanshan Festival officially kicked off at the bank of Lugu lake in Lijiang on September 3 and lasts until September 5.

Through the ages, Zhuanshan Festival, also known as Worshiping Mountain Festival, has always been the grandest event for Mosuo people living near Lugu lake, and is normally held on the 25th of the seventh month of the Lunar Calendar. As the only living matriarchal society, mosuo people are rigged out in their best to worship the Gemu Mountain, praying for a bumper grain harvest and prosperity of their descendants in the coming years.

The three-day celebration includes traditional ethnic sports, mosuo art and culture show, and especially the Lugu lake photography competition. It has attracted the attention and support from a large number of photographers. There are 3,224 works and 1,034 contestants, documenting the beauty and the cultural features of Lugu lake.
