[InKunming--Yunnan] The 3rd World Elephant Day celebrated in Xishuangbanna on August 12. Some public benefit activities are carried forward that day.
Staff from Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve Management and Protection Bureau and from Wild Elephant Valley organized an elephant painting event and an elephant birthday party for the public on the day.
Nice paintings will be collected and displayed by the Asian Elephant Museum. The elephant birthday party was arranged for a 3 years old young elephant “Yang Niu”.
“Yang Niu” shared a special birthday cake with its little friend--”Xiaoqiang” elephant. Both of them are Asian elephants.
An expert named “Elephant Dad” explained relative knowledge about Asian elephants on the site.
Right now, there are less than 40,000 Asian elephants living in the world. Asian elephants mainly live in Xishuangbanna, Pu’er, and Lincang of Yunnan Province, China, reaching around 300. Xihuangbanna Prefecture contains the most Asian elephants in Yunnan Province, containing about 280 ones.
In 2017, Yunnan fully launched the Asian Elephant Conservation System Project, and formulated The General Plan of Yunnan Asian Elephant National Park.
