[InKunming--Yunnan] Recently, a list of “2017 China’s beautiful leisure villages” was released. Four villages in Yunnan are included, and Tengchong’s Jiangdong Ginkgo village is one of them.
Ginkgo village is 35 kilometers far away from the downtown of Tengchong City, covering an area of 35.42 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 4 villages, 19 villager groups, 1137 households, and 4030 people. More than 30,000 natural ginkgo trees grow flourishingly here with an occupation of 666.67 hectares of land. Among them, there are more than 10 trees over 1,000 years old, and about 2000 ginkgo trees are 200 to 500 years old.
Reputed as the living fossil of prehistoric life, ginkgo tree is a state-level protected plant. It blooms in the spring, and bears ginkgo nut in the summer. When the fall comes, all the leaves turn into yellow. It is reported that ginkgo village receives 300,000 visitors a year, realizing a total tourism revenue of 40 million yuan.
