[InKunming--Kunming] On the morning of March 20, two peacocks escaped from Kunming Yuantong Zoo and flew into Yunnan University, hanging out for three hours and finally being ensnared by staff from the zoo.

Last week, visitors who was enjoying the spectacular cherry blossom scenery saw a few peacocks walking leisurely under the cherry trees in Yuantong Zoo. These five peacocks made a "jailbreak" from their cottage and had a cherry blossom walking with visitors.

Recently, two peacocks escaped again. This time they came to Yunnan University which is close to the zoo. Flying up to the sixth floor, or strolling on the grass, they attracted many people gathering and taking photos.

Qing qin, who is the deputy chief of management department of Kunming Zoo, introduced, “Kunming Zoo breeds more than 200 peacocks within which the most are Pavo cristatus, but also has about 20 white peacocks. They are loose housing in the zoo, which means they can go to the pedestrian road to play with visitors.”

“It is not the first time that peacocks escape from the peacock garden. At the noon on March 19, two peacocks flew to Yunnan Song and Dance Troupe and were ensnared by staff. Today two one-and-a-half-year-old peacocks flew away again,” Qing qin said.

Qing believes that there are two reasons for peacock’s escape. On the one hand, the young peacocks just grow up, willing to try their flying abilities. On the other hand, the peacocks are in the mating period from March to May, and they like to fly out of the zoo to find a place for hatch.

As introduced, the peacock keepers at Kunming Zoo will feed the peacock at 4:30-5:00 PM every day. There are six or seven naughty peacocks flying out in the daytime, and back for food at 5-6 pm. Once the staff found that the peacocks were missing, they would bring some food and lead them back with bamboo sticks.
