4,200 people enjoy Dehong Jingpo green leaf banquet




[InKunming--Yunnan]  On March 1st 2018, the traditional "Jingpo green leaf banquet" was held in Mangshi city, Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan. More than 4,200 people participated creating a new record.

This characteristic green leaf banquet mainly cooked potherb and wild game in the traditional way of roast, boil, fry and pickling. There is no bowls, plates or chopsticks. All the tableware were made of bamboo, and food were served with large banana leaves.




As a Jingpo folk song says, "if something was green in the mountain, then it can be a vegetable dish. If something was alive, then it will be a meat dish".

“This is our second time to visit Yunnan, but the first time to Dehong,” said four foreigners from Israel, "we don't know how to eat the ‘green bag' on the table." After an introduction, they finally found the way to enjoy the ‘green bag’. Opening the bag wrapped in many folds, you could see many Dai food, such as a strong smell vegetable named chongcai, deep fried jerky, chicken slide with lemon, and so forth.




"Each dish in the green leaf banquet is very delicious. The deep fried jerky is chewy, and chongcai is spicy and sour, but my favorite is chicken," a visitor Chuchu said. She had tasted Dai food in Kunming and other cities, but it felt better to have such a banquet here with people from different places, and enjoyed ebullient songs and dance performance.
