Yunnan Xiaoshuijing Miao Farmers’ Choir debut on New York stage

[InKunming--Yunnan] From February 16 to March 2, the Xiaoshuijing Farmers’ Choir from Fumin county Yunnan province gives performance in Chinese New Year concert in New York. Invited by New York Philharmonic and London Philharmonic Orchestra, Xiaoshuijing Choir works with the world’s top orchestras to offer foreign audience a stage of enjoying Yunnan unique music.




The Choir performs in America from February 16 to 21, and flies to UK to sing from February 21 to March 2. The choir, which is led by internationally renowned conductor Yu Long, consists of 50 singers playing about 24 Yunnan folk songs and world-known classics at the Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center and the Royal Festival Hall in London, such as Hallelujah, Flowing Stream, Colourful Clouds Chasing the Moon.




Most importantly, Xiaoshuijing choir is the first amateur choir formed by farmers in China, which has the opportunity to perform with international top orchestras. It is also the first time that the choir debuts on world stage and sings world-famous music in English.




Members of Xiaoshuijing choir are Miao farmers from the same village. Without professional training, music score or accompaniment, they still retain an old singing form which was handed down from 1937. the lyrics written in Miao language and the Miao music elements make the choir become unique. The choir was established in 2002, and made many outstanding achievements. For instance, they participate in the movie Forever Young and sang a beautiful song.
