Rare birds be observed at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden

[InKunming--Yunnan] The 6th Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden Bird-watching Festival was held at Xishuangbanna Botanical Garden from November 10th to 12th. Over 16 bird protection organizations around China are invited to participate in this significant event.

At present, more than 13,000 plants have been well preserved at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden. Birdwatchers have recorded 267 species of birds.

The festival designed a series of activities, including Bird-watching Race, Peacock Popular Science Exhibition, Science Report, community participation and so on. The festival launched original scientific books such as "flying in rainy forest", "birds’ stories".

On November 10th, a participating group have observed 80 kinds of birds within one day, including some rare birds such as napothera crispifrons, harpactes oreskios and chrysococcyx xanthorhynchus. They have recorded two kinds of birds, aquila clanga pallas and coracina novaehollandiae at the botanical garden. On November 11th, over 200 students and their parents took part in the festival, listening to scientific lectures concerning with nature.

Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden has organized various activities to call for bird-lovers to protect birds together on the basis of research on birds and bird conservation work. It is said that brown-throated sunbird and erythrura prasina have been found, creating a new record in China.

Among more than 200 bird records, there are some rare and endangered birds.

Pitta nipalensis: Their beautiful sound always echo at rainforest area at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden. But it would take great luck to see this gorgous creature.

Napothera crispifrons: People can see them at Green Stoneforest(also named Lvshilin) at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden.

Tyto alba: It is a second class national-level protected animal which has often been found at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden.
