First Ethnic Minorities Drama Festival staged in Kunming

[InKunming--China]  The first Ethnic Minorities Drama Festival of Yunnan Province was held in Kunming in the evening on August 28th and 29th. All the participating units and drama experts gathered to discuss the expressing forms, developing methods and innovating issues of drama.

The opening ceremony of Ethnic Minorities Drama Festival of Yunnan Province was held on August 28th. 5 participating units have prepared wonderful dramas, presenting ethnic and regional characteristics of drama from Bai, Miao and Yi peoples and other 7 ethnic minorities. Today, it is my treat was an opera brought by the Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture. It tells sweet stories of Yi people. Tengchong people performed Stars in the sky in the evening on August 29th.

The festival organizers claimed that holding such festival is helpful to present the latest achievements of ethnic minorities. Meanwhile, it will inherit the drama culture and promote the prosperity of ethnic minorities’ dramas.

An ethnic minority drama seminar was held after the performances. Expects from Chuxiong, Wenshan, Dehong and other counties exchanged their ideas and experiences. Wang Ying, the staff working in the Cultural Center of Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, said that she has learned a lot during the seminar. Promoting the development of local drama is a way to develop the economy of Wenshan.

Li Yin, the screenwriter of Chuxiong National Arts Theatre, said people use songs, dances and music to present Yi drama to the fulfillment.Yi drama aims to reflect the local people’s spirit and their attitudes toward life. Thanks Dramatists Association for providing such a platform for all ethnic groups to learn from each other.
